Struggling to drop third nap - help!

Hello,

DS is 8.5 months and while I feel he still needs his 430 pm half hr cat nap, he is refusing to have it anymore and it's disrupting my very lovely evening routine!

Until now, day looked like this, ish:

630am wake
Nap 9-930
Nap1230-2
Nap 430-5

He'd then self settle beautifully after long feed at bedtime, asleep by 7, and wake for a feed or two some time after midnight. Now he's refusing that nap he's falling asleep on me after just 5 mins on boob, and I can't really wake him before putting him down. He's then waking an hour or so later crying and I end up feeding him again.

I've tried putting him down earlier - last 2 nights he's been asleep by 630. No difference. It's disrupting the evenings as he is so hard to settle when he wakes around 9/10pm, and also I'm worried he'll forget how to self settle at bedtime.

Any suggestions?

Sorry not sure if I was clear - he's falling asleep on the boob at the bedtime feed. Won't feed to sleep at any other time, I sometimes wish he would though!

My dd2 is same age. I would push morning nap by half and hour and the same with lunchtime which reduces the time between last nap and bedtime I.e 9.30am - 10am nap and 1.30pm nap. Should then be awake enoughto feed before falling asleep Smile

Thanks nevercan.

I'd thought of that, butbi keep reading that morning nap should never be more than 2 hrs after wake up - 3hrs seems like along time although at this age maybe not?

Mine has two hours normally at 1.30pm Smile

Sorry misread that. If they get grumpy then bring it forwards again Smile
