Wind waking 5.5 month old...

...and not the rattling window kind.

Bless him! He's always been windy. It used to cause massive problems when he was under 2 months but had settled somewhat with DS managing stretches of 4-6 hours followed by 2-4 hours after a feed. He then did a few nights of 8 hours followed by 1-2 hours. But, for a couple of weeks now, he has woken around 2-3 hours after settling and can usually be resettled without a feed. he then usually sleeps another 2-3 hours and then wakes for a feed after which he sleeps for 45 mins or so before needing to be picked up again and resettled which he does almost instantly.

I have tried putting him down straight away and also waiting varying lengths of time but still he won't settle for more than 45 mins.

He always seems to be squirming and trumping before he wakes. I'm exhausted!

I had some excellent advice on another issue in the bf forum earlier and am hoping for some wise words here too! If you have any advice or similar experience I'd be grateful if you could share.

When dd went through similar I gave her in facol after every feed. Does the trick.

Can you pop him onto his front every now and then, especially before bedtime to get some out? Has his diet changed in anyway (eg solids/formula)?

I can't help, I'm afraid - but I'm marking my place. My 6-month-old angel baby (sleeping 7 til 7 with only 1 brief wake up since 4.5 months), has suddenly started waking every 45 minutes with bad wind (we've just started solids, but the amounts are tiny).

We started on infacol today, so I'm hoping that might help a bit. I've also reduced the solid feeds even more - so she's just getting a couple of spoons in the middle of the day.

Right now (7:30pm) she's lying in her cot alternating between screaming and wriggling - and laughing at the ceiling!

chubfuddler, we've tried infacol in the past and not been impressed but he was much younger then so might be worth another try. Thanks.

iggly, he dies spend some time on his front during the day but will see if some tummy time before bath helps. We always do some baby massage before bathtime and this often gets lots if wind out... Nit enough it would seem!

vvviola, I hope the infacol works. We are starting solids in a weeks time. Am nervous about the wind impact now! Will just have to see how it goes!

Am watching this too - same problem here with 4.5mo DD2. Infacol and gripe water worked when she was younger, and she is loads less windy than she used to be (so fine during the day now) but evenings/overnight it's terrible and is really disrupting her sleep - same as you with the 45m wakings.

I was thinking it might be sleep regression but maybe just wind. Will give infacol another try for a few days and see what happens. Hope you get some results and some sleep - I feel your pain!

I'm also watching with interest. Same problem as you vvviola - just started solids and wind seems to be causing a problem. It sometimes seems to make him grumpy during the day. Can't really tell about the nights because he also has a cold and that always sends his sleep crazy.

We've had some progress - settling to sleep is still an issue: she woke screaming about 4 times between 7 and 10. But then she settled til 3, and after a quick feed she settled again til just before 7.

I'm keeping the solids to once a day & as early as I can - buy she seems to be most interested in the evenings, so it's a bit of a dilemma. Am keeping going with the infacol as I think it's having some effect.
