Scratching in his sleep

My son is 3 months old and has just found his thumb which he now sucks to calm himself at night. This seems to spark a strange reaction with his other hand which he uses to scratch his forehead and head, and although we are trimming his nails regularly we cannot get them short enough to stop himself leaving scratches all over his head. We don't want to sleep him in a hat as this is not recommended, but we cannot find scratch mitts bigger than new born - does anyone have any suggestions at all?

have you tried putting one of his socks on his hand instead?

Socks are the thing. Long ones with tightish fit, put on before babygro.

Had to do this with DD when small (itchy scalp) and when she had a bandage on her hand at 10m old - didn't bother her at all.

Very good idea - thanks so much - will give it a go. PS I am a dad - hope that's allowed!
