Nightmares

DD is nearly 6. He regularly has nightmares featuring random monsters which are chasing him. He wakes up obviously scared and sobbing. He's had nightmares for the past few nights consecutively and has been in tears tonight as he's scared to go to sleep.

I've done everything I can think of to reassure him. We've checked that doors are locked, talked about nice things before he goes to sleep, drawn a picture to put next to his bed of nice things so that he can look at it, we have a 'dreamcatcher' which is meant to 'catch' the nightmares so we can throw them away and tonight I've told him that our cats have a sixth sense so know if there is anything bad about and would let us know by hissing/arching their backs (which he believed).

I think he's gone to sleep now but I'm scared to move in case he wakes up - I'm sat on the computer in the room next to his.

Any ideas on how to banish nightmares and his worries about having them?
