Have I ruined things?

My ds is 12.5 mo and has always been a rubbish sleeper, still bf to sleep so I know this is partly my own fault but I have sort of made my peace with that being the way I want to do things for now. However, lately he has been going from bedtime at 7 and not waking til 3/4am and co sleeping after that, which is a vast improvement on what he was like.

Last night I went out with some old friends. It was about the 5th time I have been on a night out since ds was born and thought I would def be in before he woke up, but alas he woke at 10pm. Dh tried to settle him for an hour but then gave in as he was so distressed and so just got him out of his bag and played with him instead until I got in at 11.30, and I got him back to sleep.

I am now worried that this will happen again tonight and ds will want to play again.
obviously I won't play with him, but just worried that this will have set us back. People have encouraged me to get dh to settle him but last night was such a failure and makes me think I will never be able to stop bf! Any reassurance/ advice?
