I've been trying to put dd to bed for an hour and a half. I'm in tears, she's in tears. I've tried rocking, singing, patting, leaving her for 5 minutes, nursing. She's 16m and coldy - has had a dose of calpol. Any ideas?

How long ago the Calpol? Takes half hour to have effect. Constipation? Temperature?

Is she normally fussy to go to bed? Maybe she is overtired?

As long as she has had liquid and calpol I would just sit quietly in her room with her until she drops off. Poor her and poor you. Colds are rubbish. Have you tried putting carvol on her bed sheets or buying a plug in as they work wonders along with baby vicks on chest. Might be worth getting tomorrow. Oh and raise the head of the cot a little to help with breathing Smile

Thanks guys. dh came home and worked his magic. Ended up getting her up at 10, to read a book quietly, just couldn't listen to her howl any longer. Patting doesn't seem to have any effect. I know it's because I'm so tired, but just starting to feel desperate about her amazing non-sleeping abilities. She has slept well in the past which is the most frustrating thing.

Thank you for the coldy tips - we have a plug in, but may try baby vicks. She'd had the calpol at 8pm and no temp, constipation, overtiredness or anything other than snottiness. Nothing like a non sleeping child to make one feel like a shit mother. Worried that I'm either damaging her by letting her cry (even if that's never without me in the room) or stuffing up any chance of letting her learn to go to sleep solo with cuddling and the endless singing.

Miserooo!
