Help! 6 mnth old poos during the night

Apologies for the grim topic, but my 6 month old son has recently suffered a bout of diarroeah which has caused havoc with his bowel movements. He used to sleep beautifully from 7 till 7, but although the diarroeah is now better, he has started pooing in the middle of the night. Usually at 3 or 4am :-(. He had a really horrific rash with the diarroeah so I am paranoid about leaving him in a dirty nappy. After I change him I then struggle for ages to get back to sleep. I'd love to know if there are any tips out there to stop him pooing in the middle of the night. I need my sleep back (yawn)! Thanks!

Hi, not sure if this is gospel truth, but I think that if they go to sleep with a full bowel, it will empty on waking - he must be waking slightly at 3am, but would usually just get himself back to sleep. So is there any way you could encourage him to go before bed (hold him in crouching position, tummy massage?). Might not work, but can't think of anything else sorry, I hope for your sake it won't last too long though. My DS had a spell of non-stop pooing at about that age as well but it settled down within a couple of weeks. I just tried to change him without waking him fully - warm the wipe, do the change on the bed, easy access clothes.

My DS was a "night pooer" even without the runs. Agree with curlykate99 with the quickest, easiest change in the cot. Hope he's better soon.
