Co sleeping when they learn to crawl?!

I just wanting to hear other people's experience of this. Is it possible to cosleep safely with a baby when they can crawl? And if so how?!
I had the shock of my life the other night when I woke up to find DS had crawled to the bottom of the bed. Is it time to get him in his own cot now?

Thanks

It still can be done but you have to be quite alert/easily woken. Failing that - put your mattress on the floor.

My DD crawls, climbs and everything! She's 10 months old. Since she is a good climber (up and down) the bed isn't as dangerous as it was to begin with. She can now climb down safely. For a while we just co-slept on a smaller mattress in the living room (actually it is a really big bean bag with a cover to make it as comfy as a mattress). That worked well and now we often still do this as DD has worked out how to open my bedroom door and we haven't got a stair gate at the top of our stairs.
