Is this an all right sleep pattern for a 6month old?

DS was waking every 2-3 hours during night for breast-feed from birth. From around 4months he would go down at 7pm then wake around 10-11, then around 2am then every hour till 7 or 8 (when I'd get up). this was driving me insane. DP persuaded me to move to formula feed at night which I did and DS now sleeps 7pm - 3or4am then untill around 7am. This is obviously a massive improvement but should he be sleeping right through by now? He is 6months next week and will be starting solid food. My DD sleeps from 7pm to 8 or 9am and has done since around 6months.

3 DCs here and none have slept through until around 13-14 months. All BF. I think you have high expectations of babies and were 'lucky' with DD. From my and friends' experience, babies that have 12 unbroken hours sleep are few and far between.

Also, 2 boys and a girl here, and from that small sample, my experience is that the boys were more needy as babies and needed more comfort and reassurance. I would not push your DS to do things he's not yet ready for. Actually, I'd think myself quite lucky with just one wakening!

Also, did you know that the term 'sleeping through' as used by NHS etc. just means sleeping 5 unbroken hours (e.g. midnight to 5am) - when they talk about whether babies sleep through, this is what they mean. Rather different to sleeping all night!
