Dd is 9 weeks, she spends most of day awake and when she does nap its very short/light. Took till gone midnight to settle her and apart from feed at 6am she slept till 10.30am She has completely thrown me as ds's all slept in day. I feel she is too young to stay awake so long and worry that it's not good for her being awake so much. Often when she does sleep my other dc wake her up too :( help?

At that age they can't normally stay awake more than two hours at a time. My dd2 has three sleeps of approx 40 mins during the day. You might want to try bringing bedtime forward and waking her up earlier in the morning so she gets into a better sleep cycle. My DD2 sleeps through DD1 shouting, bellowing etc in a pram in the same room so I am lucky there...,

I'm watching this with interest as DS (8wks) was up at around 8am, slept for just over 2 hours at lunchtime and that was it! Around half 4 he seemed ready to sleep but from past experience over the last couple of days he would have slept until around half 9 then been awake again!!

We've just started to try get bedtime routine in (this is day 2 so very early days!) so he was bathed, then I've just fed him and put him down but he wont settle. Last night it took us 3 hours from start until him actually going to sleep and he did sleep fairly well but like you I'm fairly concerned about the lack of daytime sleeping.

I too have a DD who sleeps very little during the day. She's 12weeks now and she might have a half hour nap late morning and afternoon, other days it might be 3 or 4 ten mins over the day. As long as she's alert and not getting overtired I don't worry too much, all babies are different and they're developing all the time.

I do have a night time routine but it also takes 2 to 3 hours, mainly because she has a pre-sleep megafeed!

Glad she's not only one Smile the 10.30 was a one off, usually it 7-8 am. Took her for walk and she has short sleep but awoke bright eyed again. She's quite alert, grabbing her muzzy, clasping her hands, sucking fists and intently watching what's happening. She's sleeping on me now as I type. I'm amazed at how much less she naps but on flip side she's been sleeping from 11-6ish before waking for feed a d then dozing off again. She's been doing that since about 2 weeks old and she's breastfed. She was a big girl 9lb3oz and not ever dropped. She's followed 91st centile. She's so different tho in sleep from the boys who used to wake up more in night. Bet I've jinxed it now! Grin
