Moving from cot to bed???

I'm considering moving my DS into a bed.
He's 13 mo....
He's currently in a cotbed so the 'move' would not be too time consuming as such.
He's consistently been a poor sleeper and if i'm honest this is probably a desperate last attempt to help him settle and remain in his room.
I've always managed to settle him better on our bed,and have had an inkling for a while that he feels 'trapped' in his cot.
We have a stairgate at the top of the stairs and i'd leave both ours and his door open.
So....what do you think? When did you move your LO's?

DS was a poor sleeper. We moved him at 20 months. He took a few weeks to settle down - big issues were him falling out (put a guard up), getting used to a duvet (I didn't use a grobag as didn't want him to fall when walking) and getting out of bed. We used to find him sleeping on the chair or sat in a corner as he seemed disorientated and wandered about half asleep. However now he's great and doesn't get out. I did think we might have moved him too early.

Is your bed more comfy or maybe it smells of you hence him settling better? Cot mattresses can be quite hard!

We moved at dd1 at 2 years old. Only issue we had was that she kept getting out of bed abd we had to keep putting her back initially ...

We moved DD at 3.5 Blush but no issues whatsoever - not even getting out of bed.

DS2 is 2 years and 7 months old.

About a month ago he learnt how to climb out of his cot. Since then I have left the side of his cot down so he can get out easier (and therefore not fall hopefully). I have also put the stairgate in his doorway.

I have also told him he has to wait for someone to get him in the morning - he is not allowed out of bed till then.

Bless him he hasn't climbed out since and happily plays in his cot till someone goes and gets him.

So far this is working well so I am reluctant to move him to a bed just yet...
