19 month old night wakings

DS has never been a great sleeper, he has co-slept for part of night with one of us for almost every night since birth.
He can fall asleep by himself with no trouble, but lately has been waking around 2 and being difficult to settle. If we attempt to co-sleep he just wriggles around and chats etc.
If we settle him in his cot he wakes 15 minutes later. I did walk in walk out with DD and it worked like a charm, but he seems so much more persistent and needs attention.
I don't know what to do, DH is knackered as I have been taking DS to him as he settles quicker for him and we are starting to argue over it.
Any ideas?!

How does he nap during the day? I used to go in and shush DD1 and then leave, wait 5 mins return etc. She then started to self settle

Goes straight off and sleeps 2 hours on average. When he wakes at night he stands up in the cot crying furiously.
