5 month old will only sleep for an hour

I have a bed time routine, which seems to work very well. At about 6:30 we go upstairs, have bath, massage, story, feed, down in his cot, 3/4 asleep, and he drops off minutes after. Takes half an hour, and works every time, more or less.

Unfortunately for the last week or two he has started to wake up about 45 minutes to 1 hour after that and screams inconsolably. He refuses to be fed, will not lie down, in his cot or in our arms, just gets himself more and more wound up and exhausted. Yesterday he was so tired that he started doing some manic kind of laughing.

He tends to fall asleep out of exhaustion eventually, but only in our bed between us, and will then sleep until about 4ish, when he has a little feed, and a little dance, then will go back to sleep until 7. Actually he may wake up and have a feed between these times, but he doesn't wake me up, so that's fine!

I have no idea why he screams so much. He is 24 weeks on Friday, but doesn't appear to be teething. I don't think he has tummy ache as he raises his legs to his tummy when he does. He doesn't need a nappy change, and he is not hungry as he refuses to feed.

Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be and anything I could do to sooth him???

TIA

have been having the exact same problem with my 5 month old DD for the last few weeks. driving me mad :( she went from being a great sleeper to horrendous virtually overnight. She does seem to be suffering from wind though.
Are you sure it isn't teeth coming through?
Will definitely be watching this thread. Good luck! I try to remind myself that it will pass (even though it doesn't seem to be...!)
