Too late to start swaddling?

My little boy is 10 weeks on wednesday! Last night he slept thro the night for the first time (may have been a fluke!). He does really well at sleeping once he's off but the problem I have is getting him off to sleep!!! He gets so cranky as it's a real truama getting him down at night or for naps during the day. He even wakes after a short spell when in sling or pram!

So last night he grumbled from about 7.30-9 until he finally went down! Today has managed a couple of very short naps (15-30mins each) and was noticeably grumpy at 4 when I tried to put him down again! In desperation I dug out a cotton swaddleme which I had completely forgotten about. He appears to have gone down like a dream for his afternoon nap as a result! I've read a few things about them but is this a bad time to start swaddling if it works? Is there anything I should know about overheating/ movement in them? Or do i just go with it!!... He sleeps in vest and sleepsuit usually, should I put cellular blanket over swaddleme, room is usually 17-19 degrees...

Go for it if it works, think there meant to be used alone not with blanket. Maybe you could try a sleeping bag it might give enough restriction it works for my dd she struggles to sleep without hers.

Go for it! I started swaddling DS when he was around 2 months old. He wasn't that happy when I first wrapped him up, but after I BFd him to sleep that night he was finally able to sleep in his own basket instead of my armpit. He got used to it very quickly and smiled and laughed when I wrapped him up at night. If he ever got his arm out, he would wake up and I would have to re-wrap him so that he could go back to sleep. I swaddled him until he was nearly 9 months old, after which I weaned him onto a peke moe and finally a sleeping bag. Swaddling saved my sanity!

Oh, and I used to put a light blanket over DS as well, but I think I would try without one to begin with, and when baby wakes up, check whether his neck/back is warm. If not, add a light blanket, or a vest under sleepsuit.
