When to move to a big bed?

Ds is 22 months and is happily sleeping in his cot, he still hasn't tried to escape from it (touch wood). He normally sleep through too.
I am happy for him to stay in his cot but wonder when he should go into a big bed, most of my friends tell me that by 2 he should be in a big bed.
AT what age did you move your LO into one?

I can't really help you here as my DD (3) is still in her cot Blush. She's never made any attempt to climb out, is a small little thing so still has lots of room in it, and finds it so cozy in there she often doesn't want to get out of it in the morning.

A few of her nursery friends (also 3) are still in their cot too - like DD, all only children so never needed to be moved out the cot to make way for a younger sibling.

It's never really bothered me, to be honest.

But yes, we're buying her a bed soon Grin.

We moved ds at 2.4 as we needed the cot for dd who was then 6 months and I wanted to stop co sleeping.

She is now 21 months and has slept in ds bed a couple of times when ds has been in the spare room due to her appalling sleeping & screaming

dd was nearly 2 and ds was 2 1/2 when they went into big beds. If he is happy where he is then I would leave him there for the moment.

DS1 was 2.8 when he asked for a bigger bed. We did it straight away and never had any issues at all. There's no "should" about it - do it when you/your DC want to!

CaptainNancy · 14/11/2011 09:28

2.8 and 2.9... leave it as long as you can!

Agree with CamperFan - what do they mean by 'should'. If he is happy and not trying to climb out, leave him be!

My DD has just turned 2 and is still in her cot bed which she sleeps very well in. I'm just pregnant with no. 2 so we'll need it back eventually but not yet. Plan to change it to the bed version fairly soon to get her used to a bed and then she can move into a single bed when I need the cot bed back.
