DD is 1yr, and i just wondered when we should ditch the dummy? she has other comforts such as my fleecy dressing gown but she has always been a sucky baby and likes her dummy when she's sleepy, she spits it out once alseep its just the initial comfort of sucking to sleep.....

Erm, four and a half actually. You've got plenty of time Smile

Abcinthia · 10/11/2011 22:43

I did it just after DD turned 1.

2.5 yrs

when she was taslking I used to tell he to take it out or I couldn't hear her, and she just naturally left it alone after a while

peanutpie · 10/11/2011 22:45

Four years and I wish I left it until later to be honest. I love dummies and I'm gutted my second isn't in interested!
Just keep it for bedtime.

Thankgod for peanutpie and mynameisearl. You have just helped me to feel better about my 3.5 DS still having his . He is a young for his age and I am struggling to take it away ( not like with DD who gave hers up at 2.5).

Sillyoldelf · 10/11/2011 22:51

My nameisnotearl , sorry.

workshy · 10/11/2011 23:14

god, just read that back -my typing is awful tonight!

MynameisnotEarl · 11/11/2011 21:04

Just a little point of reassurance - my DS is now 31 and suffered no ill-effects from having a dummy until he was almost school age!

His teeth have always been very good (unlike his thumbsucking sister's!) and he gave it up of his own accord. He only had it at night time from about the age of 2 iirc.

upahill · 11/11/2011 21:05

After a couple of days using one with DS1
I just thought they were pointless and never bothered when I had DS2

countessbabycham · 11/11/2011 21:08

Waited till they wanted to do it themselves (6 and 4).

No Pain !

SausageSmuggler · 12/11/2011 11:47

My DS is 1 also and I cut it's use down to just sleep times about a month ago and to be honest he hasn't been that bothered. I do relent a bit if we out in a restaurant or something and he starts getting very shouty though. I'd like for him to only have it at night by the time he's 18 months but right now he isn't ready.

StoneBaby · 12/11/2011 12:11

I took it off DS when he was 8 months for night sleep as it was disturbing his sleep (and mine) and 1 year for naps.

rubybambini · 12/11/2011 20:11

She stopped herself! I used one to get DD to sleep at night and for daytime naps between around 4 months and 6.5 months, and she's just suddenly refused it, point blank. She has however, gone onto a fleece blanket comforter thing...
