WHAT'S THIS NIGHT-WAKING ALL ABOUT?

My DD is 1 next week and has always slept brilliantly at night(12 hours at least). Until 3 weeks ago where she wakes numerous times a night. We go in, give her a cuddle til she falls asleep again.. 20 minutes later she's probably up again! It's not a pain cry, more of a groaning, and we go in to finding her sitting up in her cot! Last night, we got 2 hours sleep! We're both feeling really rough too, so this really isn't helping. PLEASE RE-ASURE ME..?

do you mean that she goes to sleep WHILE you are cuddling her? This could mean that she is starting to associate the cuddling with going to sleep. I would just give the cuddle and put her back down again while she is still awake and if she cries again, repeat until she goes back to sleep. What happens if you leave her while she is groaning? - will she settle back to sleep or does it turn into crying? I wouldnt go in really unless she is crying as you could be disturbing her self-soothing process by going in too quickly.

Hope you sort it out anyway!

Thanx seona1973. Yeah, her groans turn to cries... LOUDLY! Sometimes she falls esleep on us while cuddling her, other times she just stares at us. There ARE times we've been in and she's not even totally awake!!

Last night was quite awful. We had friends over, but we were up and down to her all night. She looks really annoyed with herself for being awake, as if she can't help it.. She's so full of beans today, she can't feel poorly although she has got a runny nose... oh, who knows?
HAPPY NEW YEAR ANYWAY!

could it be teeth? those blasted molars seem to take forever to come through.

Says she whose 2.7 year old is at this moment SCREAMING upstairs and won't go to sleep - bad mummy is trying to ignore her for 10 mins in the hope that she'll wear herself out!

Had a good night last night! The only thing we did different yesterday was to knock chocolate on the head. We never let her have any. You know what xmas is like, chocies all over the place... well, not yesterday.. and she slept! Could we have cracked it?
