How young is too young for bunk beds?

Hi ladies
I have 2 boys currently 3.5 years old who is in a single and the other 2 in early October who is in a cot. They both share a bedroom.
My youngest tries to get into the elder ones bed at night and seems to really want to be a big boy. The trouble is I had bunk beds planned but is a nearly 4 year old too young for top bunk?
I may have to re think sleeping arrangements for the time being as don't want to risk any accidents.

we had bunk beds on hols this year and I had to put DD 4.5 in the top. To be honest I was a bit nervous and I am a very un-precious mum. She was fine and I wasn't worried about her falling out in the night, it was more to do with the ladder and her trying to get down in the middle of the night/early morning for the loo. She was fine though. I would think it would be ok, but if you can find one with proper steps up rather than a ladder style, personally I would think it would be better.

Not younger than 5 in the top bunk imvho.

I have bunk beds that separate, currently used as two singles. DCs are 2.5 and 4. When the youngest is a bit less insane they can have them as bunks! DD is sensibleish, DS the youngest is not, he is a Climber and likes to Jump.

I think youngest needs to be about 4 or more, depending on the child. I would need a season ticket for casualty if we had a nice child friendly ladder in the bedroom

Moaningminnie. That's a brilliant idea I never thought of getting bunks that separate. I did think i was going to have to buy another single for maybe a year until my eldest was that little bit older but it's problem solved! I must be having a very dense few months this has been plaguing my mind for ages!!

We have had our DD1 and DS in bunkbeds for about a year. They were 2 yrs and 4 yrs when they started sleeping in them. Our then 2yr is an excellent climber and we found them asleep together in the top bunk several times. They made it to their 3rd and 5th birthdays ;)
