Crying because we're stopping co-sleeping

I need some support and reassurance please!

Today is the first night my DD is sleeping in her cot - she is 9mo. I'm a single mum and really love sleeping with her, it's been amazing. She keeps crawling off the blummin bed so I know it's not safe anymore.

I know the cot is the best thing to do but I can't stop crying! She's just gone to sleep in it, I took one look at her and now can't stop crying!

I've done the right thing haven't I? She won't hate me for it?

Aw, she'll be fine!

I am guessing she was quite happy with the whole thing given that she is asleep already?

Yes you've done the right thing! No other choice as you must keep her safe. It is like when you finish bf and think you'll miss that special contact but it passes and your relationship continues to strengthen. Chin up girl x

It's exactly like you said, I'm worried I'll miss the closeness and the bond of it! I realise I'm being silly. Just nice to hear other people know what I mean about it x

She won't hate you, she won't even remember and will thank you in the long run for giving her love and care and the ability to sleep comfortably on her own. I feel that sometimes you have to go with the flow and let the changes happen. Maybe when she is older and won't roll around and fall out, you can have some special snuggle up nights together again!

You can still bring her into bed with you when she wakes up for her early morning feed, and still get some snuggles then.

Oh and have you tried bed guards on your bed so she can't fall out? If you really want to continue co sleeping you could always get a futon or put your mattress on the floor instead.

She will be fine, fine, fine. And you willboth sleep better. And it'snot irrevocable, you can put her back in bed with you fora snooze in the early hours(DD3 is 2 and we still do that)

If you did want to co-sleep again,I had a friend who rolled up towels and put them under the bottom sheet so their LO didn't fall out,worked a treat.

We stopped at 6mo, but there are occassionally nights when DD needs to be back in our bed (when she is ill or distressed). So don't feel that it is completely permanent, you will get that snuggly feeling again. I also love the mornings when DD comes and plays on our bed with us.
