Early rising- just venting really

OK, we have tried possibly everything- blackout blinds, later naps, fewer naps, more naps, ignoring, giving water, giving her toys, wake-to-sleep, taking her outside at teatime. But apart from 2 glorious months of 6.30am 'lie-ins' between 13-15 months, and 2 days where she slept til Shock after 7, our 16mo dd has woken between 5am and 6am for months and months.

I AM KNACKERED.

I feel annoyed every morning even though she is lovely, happy girl. I am bored of going to bed at 9pm. We want another baby, but I don't know if I could take sleepless nights plus early mornings. She's a short napper too so sometimes the days can feel very, very long...

I do know we are lucky that she sleeps 10-11 hours. But man, this early rising is getting OLD.

Our 'technique' now is to go in every 5-10 mins and tell her to go back to sleep. She often does- for 10 or 20 mins. Then she will sit there moaning, but we don't let her get up til 6am.

I don't think there's anything we can do. WHEN WILL IT END?

That is all.

Hmm, good plan Angel, thank you (plus I'm off out for a rare evening out tonight, so will be nice to get him tucked up early!). Gawd, I really hope it isn't a 'max 10 hours a night' thing going on. DS1 has always been a 12 hours a night boy, so these 5am starts with DS1 are awful. Let's hope they all sort themselves out soon!

Last night I didn't get him down til 8.30 as was late home from an afternoon out - so hoped he would sleep in but no - 4.50 this morning.

We did no morning nap yesterday and an hour of DH walking buggy in the rain at 6pm.
He woke up at 6.05am, which is at least an hour later than normal! Mightily impressed. Going to try the same again today, but not feeling over optimistic it is anything other than fluke!
Sorry you got an early start Bear

Mine has been waking up wet the past few mornings, his pants are wet and then he won't go back to sleep. So last night, at about 12:00 (we went out for a farewell party) I went, in, changed his nappy, he didn;t even wake properly. This morning he slept till 5:30 which is better than 5, believe me, but still not convinced this is the solution. He is down to one nap of one hour, will keep this up for a week, it's not as if he is very tired in the pm so maybe he is just ready to sleep less. Fingers crossed.

I feel like ive improved things by just jiggling her bedtime routine, later but short nap if needed then a slightly later bedtime,i made every evening different times iyswim and also blacked out the window even more and we have been getting a 6-7 wake up,so much better.Try it.
