Early waking support thread, anyone?

Apologies if this already exists, do point me in the right direction!

So, I'll start off: 8 month-old DD2 wakes anytime from 4.30. She does odd spells of sleeping until 6.30 and is much better for it, but that tends to be the exception.

I've tried everything. Adjusting temperature, blackout blinds, exposure to light in the day, adjusting bedtimes and naps. She naps in her cot mornings and afternoons and goes to bed very easily. She can and does self-settle. I used a sleep consultant but in the end she more or less admitted that this is an intractable problem.

So my strategy is to try to ignore DD2 until 6 for the next fortnight. She doesn't get really upset - I wouldn't leave her if she did - but does protest a bit. This wakes up DD1, but I'm determined to stick with it and not reinforce the early waking with milk and cuddles.

The worst bit, for me - even worse than the actual sleep deprivation - is the feeling that I don't know what I'm doing and it's all somehow my fault.

Roll up, roll up, share your experiences here!

Hi - I can only sympathise as I have 13 month old DTs who are fond of early waking too. Basically one wakes and this in turn wakes the other. I hope someone comes up with some advice before I trip over the bags under my eyes!

I'll join you! My DS's usual wake-up time is about 5:45 and if he naps more than 80 minutes he wakes up iin the night too. I do hope that it will get better in the winter- long time away- as it got progressively worse with the lighter mornings.. Might try the taking outside thing that they were discussing on the other thread...
