Toddler bed or single bed?

Hi

We're thinking about moving 19 month old DS into a single bed (in a cot at the moment). Cot is a bit small plus he's almost outgrown his travel cot (about an inch or two left!) so would like him in a bed before our next holiday.

I've been having a look and can't decide whether to get a small single for DS or go for a toddler bed that'll last until he's about 5. I figure that a single bed might not last much longer if we go for a cheap option. Any thoughts?

We got a flexa bed - which is a full sized single but quite low, and it basically lasts them until they leave home (although not particularly cheap)! It has various bits you can buy - so we currently have a rail fixed on it, and later it can be added to to make a bunk bed or a cabin bed or a day bed. My son absolutely loves it and has never got out of it!

I'm going to look into bed guards, thanks. IRS hard to get an idea from looking online so will have to go shopping. I would like DS to have a low bed though.
