How late do you let your 18mo nap?

DD is 18 months on Tuesday. Bedtime is 7.30 pm. Tonight she wouldn't go to sleep and DH reckons its because she slept too late this afternoon. Her nap was approximately 1.30 until 3.15. Do you think he is right? I know it wouldn't have been a problem with DS.

My ds is 14 months and he usually naps from 11-1pm. Sometimes we go out at that time though and it might be 12.30-1pm when he goes to sleep - he might sleep till almost 3 but he'll still go a full night through from 7-7.30.

They are all different though - lots of babies wouldn't. Try and cut it back or put him down earlier and see if it makes a difference.

if mine slept til 3.15 bed time wouldnt happen til about 8.30/9 pm.
both usually awake by 2pm, bed at 7.30/8

Hmm. I suppose the obvious answer is to try limiting it. DD usually sleeps until about 7ish in the morning. But this morning she was awake for a while at about 5.30 and also slept for 10 mins in the car at about 10. I really don't think she would go down as early as 11 although at nursery she sleeps from 12.10 for about 1.5 hours.

hermykne do you adjust bedtime to suit when they napped then? I have to be pretty consistent with bedtime because DS is in reception and he gets very tired and needs to be in bed by 7.30. So it would have to be the nap that changed. It was only so late because we went to Ikea and had lunch there. Think she was tired earlier as she was playing up at the tills.

bozza, i would delay bed if the nap was late or we were out and they fell asleep on journey home, albeit, briefly but in general naps are around noon for 2hrs max.
dd is sort of growing out of hers
but ds is fairly consistent every day

I have a 17 month oldand it varies day to day. Ideally I would like him sleeping mid day for a couple of hours. But usually, he still has a late morning sleep and then an afternoon sleep - sometimes gets up as late as 4pm. He still goes to bed roughly 7pm. Today he only slept an hour until 12:30 and then not again all day. It really does vary.
