Refusing to lie down in cot - falling asleep sitting up?!

Our DD (14.5mths) has always been a good sleeper, give or take the odd blip when teething etc. But for the last three nights she has been really tricky to settle and after experimenting with getting her up, cuddling / reading bedtime story again / calpol (in case she was feeling poorly), we eventually went for leaving her to it, which did work in the end. Yesterday it took quite a while (30mins) but after she'd settled for about 30mins I checked on her to find she'd fallen asleep sitting up but with her face basically in her lap!! I 'unfolded' her and lay her down, and she then slept through the night (...well until 5.30am).

Tonight, it took far less whingeing for her to get off, so we thought she'd sorted herself out, but after checking her just now, she'd clearly done the same thing! Again, I have put her straight and she will hopefully be OK now.

Question is - is this normal?! How do we get her to fall asleep lying down, as she always used to, with no complaint?

It just looks so uncomfortable - my back would be killing me if I fell asleep in that position!!

My ds1 did this for a while. We would find him in the morning fast asleep bent double! We've got quite a few photos of him in his cot in that position. I'm sure it didn't last too long

Phew - thanks Bensmum76! Good to know that other babies have done the same!

In fact I think one of our problems is putting her to bed when she's just too tired, which means she puts up more of a fight and gets herself into funny positions in the process.

We put her down about 25mins earlier last night and she went to sleep flat on her back and barely moved until almost 7am today, so hopefully it was just a blip!

Thanks for the reassurance though!

My DS was found age 2 asleep (in a bed) with his legs up the wall?!?!?!

Bizarre sleeping positions seem to suit littlies - and my DH would say they still suit me (30, curl up in the tightest ball right under the duvet - often wake up with musclar aches from weirdness in night) Grin
