4 week old sleeps all the time

Is this OK? My dd1 was completely the opposite so I don't know what to do.

My 4 week old sleeps/dozes for about 18 hours a day - the rest of the time just up feeding or pooing. Weight gain is great - breastfed every 1-2 hours during day and 2-3 hours during night. Is this OK?

My DS did that too for the first 5-6 weeks.

It soon changes, make the most of it I say!!!

Sounds ok. I always heard about babies sleeping for this many hours in the day at this age (ds never did) but if feeding, weight gain are ok, I would say enjoy the peace and quiet!!

Sounds like my dd when she was a month old - it didn't last for long though, by the time she was six or seven weeks she was having plenty of time awake and being active.

Try not to worry - you know that they're all different.

I also worried re my dd sleeping more than any of the other babies in our NCT group, turns out she was just growing lots. Now cant get her to sleep at 9 weeks!!
If eating well and gaining weight enjoy it!

My DS2 was the same and it made me nervous too because DS1 wasn't like that at all. By 6 weeks he was definitely starting to stay awake for longer periods and now he's 22 weeks he sometimes refuses to nap at all! Enjoy the peace and quiet whilst you still can...

Just checked my feed diary for ds and at 8 weeks old he was still sleeping 15-16 hours a day, just like my dds did at this age.

Totally normal IME!

tamula · 09/11/2005 22:00

sounds great, perfectly normal for that age. You neednt worry.

Sounds about right to me.
