This can't be too much sleep, can it?

DD is 7 months and in the last month had finally started napping for more than 40 minutes at a time (wahey!). However, her night-time sleep became terrible at the same time and she would often be awake at night for hours for no obvious reason.

This last few nights she's slept better at night - still waking 3-4 times but just having a feed then going right back to sleep. But she's back to 40 minute naps in the day!

Her routine is very roughly

6am awake
8.30am nap
11.30am nap
2pm nap
6-6.30pm bedtime (wakes once between this and 10pm, then at 10pm (feed) then again around 1-2am and 4-5am)

So at best around 13 hours, which surely isn't much for a 7 month old baby Confused

Or have I just got one who doesn't need the sleep?

Sounds the same as my DS ( 8 months)

6-7am wake up
9am - nap (2 hours!)
2pm - nap (another 2 hours!)
7-7:30pm bed
Feed at 11pm-12am
Feed 5am

wake up 6-7am

He was having a little nap inbetween his morning and afternoon nap, but has dropped that now.

Not sure how much sleep they need at this point, first time clueless mum so just going with what he tells me!

I don't have an answer I'm afraid but I'd like to hang around to see if anyone has a theory .... my 6 MO DD naps 3 or 4 times in the day, for about an hour at a time, and has recently stopped sleeping for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time at night. She goes back to sleep after a bf but I can't help feeling that if I could keep her awake for longer during the day then the nights would be a bit better.

IMissSleep, this is DC2 and I would give whole limbs to have a baby who naps like that! You're getting 14/15 hours sleep in there! Grin

I'm not sure what to make of it, although I'm fairly sure she's teething today so perhaps it'll settle down again afterwards. She just seems so tired, but isn't sleeping Confused

Teething sends my DS sleeping all over the place!! He's got 5 coming through all at once :( I know I'm lucky with his naps, wish I could get a full night some time soon though :)

Hope it gets better for you!
