Help with 6 month old please

My six month old will sleep for around 2 hours at a time. He is breastfed, in a cot in my room and I tend to feed at 8pm and he will then wake every couple of hours for a feed, maybe 3 hours if I'm lucky. Generally (but not always) he will go back to sleep fairly quickly. At around 2 am I keep him in bed with me and then he wakes up at around 4/5 am wanting to play.
I am fairly exhausted but I really don't want to let him cry it out because a) I don't want to :) and b) I really don't want 4 year old dd waking up as I will never get her back to sleep again.
I can't really get him into much of a routine sleeping in his cot during the day because I have to be out and about at different times. We have started blw so he is eating but not huge amounts.
Any ideas? I would quite like to get him in his own room shortly but really can't face having to get up so often in the night.

At 5 months I stopped feeding to sleep at bedtime and only fed every 4 hours at night - DP dealt with wakings in between feeds. Worked pretty quickly and soon ds only woke every 4 hours.

Thanks Rita, what did DP do with ds in between feeds, was there lots of crying involved?

He started putting him to bed by rocking/cuddling him til he was asleep, then when we woke in the night DP would rock/cuddle him again. There was crying, but more at bedtime than during the night. It took 2 or 3 days I think for DS to be happy about DP putting him to bed.

Will maybe try, thanks, typical ds slept 5 hours and dd woke up last night!
