Dear Mumsnet

I am at my wits end. DD, 8.5 months old, is waking up and crawling around her cot, crying. I've just started a new job, (could be the reason for more unsettled nights, though she has also started crawling in the last two weeks...) and so i feed her back to sleep. She is waking up every 2 hours, or less. How do I help her to self settle when she wakes up and starts crawling?

thank you soooooo much for your advice.

It's common for sleep to become unsettled when a little one learns a new skill. Rather than feeding her, just try patting her back with you at the side of the cot, with the odd shush here and there.

Today I started reading Andrea Grace's Gentle Sleep Solutions. She suggests patting her back too. I am going to start the new regime tomorrow evening, though not 100% sure what that will be. Suggestions still welcome!

No problem. I'm posting from my phone, under the duvet. Think she's gone back to sleep for now - with some patting - but today's been a day of odd bouncing on all fours and she's keen to continue this endeavour in her sleep Hmm. Hang on in there!
