any ideas why ds has started screaming when he's put in cot?

For nap and bedtime he's screamed somuch we've had to cuddle
Him to sleep. Really don't want to go back to that as he's only recently started self settling properly. Any ideas? He's not comforted at all unless we pick him up. Help! Oh and he's 16 months.

My 17mth old DS2 is doing the same thing. I think it's because he is getting older and is totally aware that it's bedtime and he does not want to go to bed.

Not sure what to do about it either. Last night I picked DS up and settled him a few times and popped back in cot. He really did not want to go down. I ended up shushing and patting his back and eventually he went to sleep.
