Should I stop using sssh/pat

My 6 month old DD self settles at night and sometimes for naps. I can put her down for a nap and she will warble away for ages (sometimes 40 mins or more) before she will finally fall asleep - it is just warbling though, she is not distressed. Sometimes though, I go in and sssh/pat (well variation of it, I just place my hand on her tummy and ssssh) until she falls asleep. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes. I used to feed her to sleep, but that has not been working, so for past 3 weeks have been doing this.

I am slightly concerned that she is maybe becoming reliant on this to fall asleep....should I just stick with it and be very glad that it works, or should I try and wean her of it? Any advice as to how to do that would be gratefully received.

If she is not waking up through the night and needing you to shushpat her back to sleep, then I wouldn't expect it to be a problem. Not that I'm an expert but I do the same as you and dd sleeps through so I'm guessing she does stir at night and settles herself which is the main thing.
