Some wuestions about swaddling if anyone can help - I swaddled 4 week old dd on thursday night and she seemed to have a good sleep - settling herself quite well after feeds, however last night she seemed distressed and upset which might have been the swaddling but she's a bit colicky/windy too.

So, my questions are -

1 - how long (hours) can you swaddle a baby for overnight? If we put her down to sleep at 10pm, could we keep her swaddled until morning?

2 - When she needs her nappy changing in the night, will she find it distressing/confusing being unswaddled then wrapped back up again?

Any other swaddling advice will be appreciated! Am knackered and willing to try anything Grin

Mine were all swaddled for the night, and I'd just undo the bottom of the swaddling when changing bums. However, if the nappy wasn't dirty, I'd not change it at the nighttime feed, as nappies are designed to go all night and wet held away from the skin.

However, this is nearly 12 years ago, so may not be teh same as current advice.

Yes, keep her swaddled all night and change by opening the bottom only (you can do this on most swaddling wraps) but also don't change unless really necessary!

Warning; my DD is 4 months and I can't get her out of the swaddle even though she wants to suck her fingers/hands now, if I leave her out she flails around cos she's never got used to it. Just saying this so you think carefully about when you withdraw it - probably better sooner rather than later!

I kept DD swaddled all night. Only opened the bottom if she had poohed, otherwise no nappy changes. She was swaddled for about 6 weeks I think.
Congratulations - I loved my little bundle wrapped all snug.

We swaddled all nite until ds2 was in his sleeping bag t about 6 months.
I still swaddle him for his daytime nap and hes 16 months now.
Never change a babys nappy in the nite unless its dirty. If you chnge you bby before bed it will be fine until mornng

Aha, thanks all. Will keep her swaddled up all night tonight then and hope for the best, I probably disturbed her sleep more last night unwrapping her and then wrapping back up.

She seems to like having her arms flailing round but actually I suppose it is keeping her more awake really?

She does look cute all wrapped up too :)
