My DS1 is 8mo next week, and an absolute delight during the day - very smiley. happy, engaging, and has just started crawling a few weeks ago.
He has always been an awful sleeper, with most nights having 3 wake ups, or even more? and not at the same time either - some nights he will wake at 11, 2, 4, 5.30, another he might go through to 2, then wake on the hour etc. No rhyme or reason as the days are like clockwork.
During the day he puts himself to sleep in his cot, and he consistently has 2 1.5hour sleeps at 10 and 2.

He has a very solid bedtime routine and is alseep by 6.30/6.45 every night in his cot, putting himself to sleep.
he uses a dummy.

He eats 3 solid meals a day and was EBF until 6 months, when I started mix feeding him - Formula during the day and BF at night. I have just stopped BF completely, and he is having formula at night now, and in doing this, I have seen that he isn't waking for the food (duh... you might say!!!) as he has a sip from the bottle and thats it. But finding it difficult to settle.

When I was BF at night he would be very settled by the cuddle and feed and would not neccessarily be asleep but would go to sleep once put down drowsy.

Now that i don't have the magic bullet of BF him to sleep, the wheels have come off a bit, and he is finding it difficult to settle without me there - so planning on CC tonight.
Any advice.???

Getting nervous now :)

Tried to not feed DS last night, but he wouldn't resettle until I did - furious crying! But he only took 3oz. And now, happily chattering in his cot, no need for milk at all. So I think he is ready :)

Well, this is odd. Having decided to do CC tonight, DS has slept 6.30 - 4! Shock First time he has ever slept for anything like that long!

I wasn't sure what to do about the dummy, figured he would spit it out if he was really crying, but it might help if he just needed to drop off. So I put it in, he dozed for 15 mins, then awake again. Strangely though, his cry isn't his usual furious wail, definitely his 'I'm tired and want to be asleep' gentle cry.

Anyway a question :) If I get to 5 minutes and 'should' go in, but the crying is the gentle chuntering he does to get himself to sleep, do I go in? I was thinking not, as that may re-wake him, but is it more important that I reassure him?

He does seem to have gone now. Needless to say, he may have slept for nearly 10 hours, I have woken every couple, as that is what I am used to!

We are at the end of our tether with DD's bad sleeping, so have decided that tonight is the night to implement CC. I'm hugely encouraged by the tales of success on here, I'm just hoping that DD (7.5 months) takes to it.

I have posted on here before about her terrible sleeping habits. She was quite a bad sleeper as a newborn, then got a bit better and the best we've had is her sleeping 6:30pm - 1am, then 2am - 6am. She has never once slept through but if we could get back to just one wake up a night then I would take it in a flash. Currently she is going until about midnight, and then is totally un-settlable for a good couple of hours. Last night was a shocker. Had no choice but to put her in our bed. So tonight is the night to do something about it - No Cry Sleep Solution unfortunately just hasn't worked for us, so CC is the next option.

Hi moo - good on your DD! thats a result, isn't it? So pleased that it's going well - long may it continue. Smile

Zen - how typical that you LO slept for so long! Maybe got the vibe that something was up? Anyway, re going in if the crying isn't furious and just chuntering - I didn't as I felt it would just disturb him - I think you can hear when it's that sort of low chatting, grumbling noise they make when they are trying to go to sleep, rather than the "Come and Get ME!!!" cry.

So chuffed that you are having some success, too! I have to admit, my DS has been sleeping consistently through now from 6.45pm to about 6 am for a week, and only last night did I not wake up every few hours!!! I think we've been sleep trained by our LO's to wake up regularly! And my self settling skills are seriously poor! Wink

welcome threaders to our merry little band, will be thinking of you tonight - and holding thumbs - hope it goes well, and sorry you had such an awful night - I swear that could have been my LO just 2 weeks ago - I really am amazed at how easily the process has been once I put my mind to it. Be strong!

Another great night - she didn't wake till 6! And she is so, so much happier when she does wake up.

How did last night go Threaders and Zen.

Assuming everything still good with you skil

InTheZenGarden · 16/03/2011 09:39

He slept 6.40 to 6.25! Grin Shock

Woke at 9pm and 2am for dummy, but that was it!

And 4 didn't even do CC, he just slept - huge coincidence, isn't it??!

So once this is definitely established, I need to ditch the dummy - mumcah, if you're still around, how did you do it?

Threaders, hope the amazing luck of this thread worked for you too :)

InTheZenGarden · 16/03/2011 09:41

Sorry, meant to be I, not 4! Predictive text on phone!

SkilpadsMom · 16/03/2011 11:42

Hooray zen and moo Grin

All still good here - like clockwork 6.45pm-6am, and a very happy baby!
I even went out with some girl friends for supper last night, got back after 11pm, so a very happy mummy too!!!

Threaders hope your night was ok!? let us know how it went.
