Hi, I posted something similar on here a week or so ago but am hoping for some more ideas / similar experiences!
Our dd who has just turned 2 started waking in the night about a month / 6 weeks ago. This was prob due to the fact that we have been through a very difficult period that I expect she picked up on. When waking she has needed one of us to stay with her which we havebeendoingbecause we are not in a place emotionally where we could cope with leaving her to scream/cry.
However, I can't quite work out what is going on. She is currently waking inthenight approximately twice a week and I don't know why as the other nights she sleeps through. She cries but stops when you go in the room. She doesn't ask to play or go downstairs but lies down and then shuffles around/sits up/sings and talks quietly to herself for about 4 hours! Last night she did this from midnight till 4 am! I know she is shattered but she just doesn't seem to drop off to sleep. She is in an adult single bed so I lie down next to her to at least try and get some sleep. But it's really starting to impact me.
Do you think the night wakefulness could be due to over tiredness? Although she has an 1hour nap at lunchtime and at least 11 hours the nights she sleeps through.
If any one has similar experience please share or can help me see something obvious I am missing. Fully expect a 2 year old to wake in the night but not take 4 hours to go back to sleep!! Thanks x

Sorry got no answers, but just to say you are not alone. Our dd is 4.10 she has hardly ever slept through the night, but for the last year has been getting worse awake for at least 4 hours 6 nights out of 7. We are shattered and Im going to try and find out about a sleep clinic to help perhaps you could do the same.
Hope you get some sleep tonight.Smile

Thanks for replying happydayyay, I hope you get some help from a clinic as you must be absolutely exhausted. Our dd has a cough at the moment bless her, so is waking up because of that now. We have resorted to sleeping in her pull out bed to at least try and sleep as she sings twinkle twinkle for the 100th time at 2am! I am praying that this is just a phase as up until now she has been a pretty good sleeper.
Hope you start getting some sleep soon too x
