using an alarm clock???

Our dd, now 2yrs went into her own bed a while ago and in the last month has started coming into our room to say good morning and show us her teddies at 5.30-6am each morning.
Some friends/relative suggested an alrm clock for her. DOes this work and has anyone used a good one for toddlers, something that will get her interest.

Yes I always rave over this bunny alarm although I know there are some on here who hate it ! Worked a treat for DS who used to do exactly the same. You can also get a Winnie the Pooh version

we havent tried an alarm clock but we have just bought some lilac fluffy fairy lights and set them up on a timer at the top of her curtains. We are planning to start them off to come on at 6am (still early I know but we want dd to understand it from the start and dont want to make her stay in her room too long on the first few nights). Once she understands that she cant come through till the lights go on we will then make the timer put them on later and later till we get to a more reasonable hour. Thats the theory anyway - dont know how it will work in practice!! (dd is 23 months old btw).

We bought a cd alarm clock and told him he could come in when the music came on 7am. He learnt to recognise what 7am looked like very quickly (we didn't know at the time that he was deaf so he couldn't hear the music, but might work for others)

will love to know how you get on Seona1973. I've actually got some lovely fairy lights that my sister bought me one so I might also try that.
But will have to wait till next week as have decorators coming later this week. but it sounds like a great idea.

update on first night of fairy lights:
dd came through at 5.55am and told her it was too early and took her back to her room and put her back into bed. Told her she could come through when the fairy lights came on and then I went back to bed.

I fully expected her to be back through within 2-3 minutes as the lights are set to go back on at 6am, but to my surprise she didnt come back till 6.20am. Probably a first night fluke - we'll see how we get on for the next few nights!!!

Would love to hear any further updates on this one! I'm having the same problem. Whizzz - how old can they understand the clock thing from then?

We did the light on timer (it was one of those fibre optic lights) when DS was 2.5 and it worked brilliantly. Still has a light on timer now and he is nearly 5. Good thing is if the light is fairly dim it doesn't wake them if they happen to be still asleep. Also get a 7 day timer (rather than 24) and then you can set if for 15 minutes later at weekends.

Fairy lights update:
On Monday night I reminded her that she wasnt to come through until the fairies had woken up and the lights came on. I woke at just after 6am on Tuesday morning and there was no sign of her so had a peek and although the lights had come on she was still asleep - she came through about 6.20am and got lots of praise for staying in her room.

On Wednesday morning she came through at 4.30am with a book (!) and was promptly taken back to bed and told it was too early. We had set the timer for 6.20am this time and expected her in shortly after that. She didnt come back through until 6.50am, so got lots of praise for waiting until the lights went on.

It's looking promising but the clocks going back at the end of the month will probably cock it all up again!!

Do you think just 21 months is to soon to try the lights?

Am def going out to buy some though - even if I have to wait a bit !

Am going to assemble toddler bed this w/e do you think it's wise to try the lights at the same time as new bed?
