Co Sleeping question...safe?

Hi all,

6 month old DD spends most of her night in bed with us, next to me. She is still BF so it makes sense for use.

My question is this; when she wants feeding I tend to bring her up so she is lying on her side, on my arm. My arm runs along under her neck if you see what I mean. I lie half on my side.

Is this safe/ok for her? I'm very aware of her and follow normal co-sleeping suggestions, but she doesn't lie flat on her back all night.

Is this ok?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't like to give a definitive answer re: safety but sometimes the only way my dd will sleep is as you describe, on her side snuggled in to me. I feel quite comfortable with that and am just thankful that it's a surefire way that we both get some sleep.

This is how my ds sleeps too - again, can't say it's safe as it's not in accordance with SIDS guidance, but isn't SIDS almost unheard of in co-sleeping babes?

I don't remember where I read this so should be taken with a pinch of salt...I'm happy because it feels natural and I am hyper-aware of ds throughout the night.

She sleeps brilliantly when like it, dh looked at us all curled up yesterday morning and commented how much she'll hate it when we eventually put her in on her own. Very cosy.

Most co-sleeping SIDS deaths occur on sofas and not in their parents' beds. In many cultures co-sleeping is the norm and is actively encouraged and in some of those countries SIDS is rare (Japan is one example i think). The risks are more to do with drinking alcohol/ taking drugs.

Sounds ok to me, but it's whatever you're comfortable with. If in doubt, don't do it.
