6 week old bad habits

After mulitple issues, my DS has happily gone from breast to formula a week ago. He seemed to drop the 4am feed immediately not needing food but just needing to be settled with a cuddle then going back down. Unfortunately he then had some digestion issues with the formula which is all very common. He would be uncomfortable from 4 - 7 am, before he did his daily, large 'business'. Unfortunately the only way to soothe him was to cuddle, he wouldnt go down by himself in those hrs. Now he seems over that but still wakes at 4am wanting cuddles and will not settle except in arms. When we try to put him down he stirs and wakes again. Anyone else had this issue, how to break such a pattern?

Help and advice most appreciated to this new mummy (confused)

I think he's doing incredibly well at six weeks to be so settled. I wouldn't call anything he does at the moment a 'bad habit' because he's still extremely new and things change very rapidly from week to week. If you keep settling him with a cuddle at 4am for a little longer - and maybe go back to offering him a bottle because he might be hungry after all - he'll probably start to sleep through that feed in his own time.

Pays not to rush things or expect patterns to be too set in the early days. My DS was a relatively good sleeper compared to my friends' children and he didn't drop that 3am feed until he was about 14 weeks old. Get plenty of sleep yourself whenever you get the opportunity and try to go with the flow.

Good luck
