I ask because after years of going to sleep at 7.30ish, my dd is suddenly not getting to sleep until 8.30.

DS is now 8 and goes up to bed at 7.30 and lights out at 8.00. When he was 6 he went to bed at 7.00 and lights out at 7.30. He has a long school day and does a lot of sport.

8.30pm sounds fine really.

My DS1 is 6 and goes anywhere between 7pm and 11pm. 11pm is usually when he's got ideas in his head that he just has to put into action and can't possibly wait until morning! Grin But I HE so he can sleep late and it's not a problem and can also nap after lunch if he needs it.

Dd1 (almost 7) goes to bed at 7pm on school nights, reads for 10 minutes and then goes to sleep. At weekends she goes to bed at 7.30-8pm depending how long i can put up with her Grin.

DD still mooching round upstairs - trips to loo, requests for hot water bottle, drink etc etc.

I read her a story at around 8 and let her read til 8.30, she doesn't seem to have any problems getting up at 7.30 so I reckon she's getting enough sleep.

IIRC with DS, when he got to 7.5 - 8ish he had a growth spurt and started falling asleep earlier, then bed time moved back later again.
