...what time is it (and what time do they wake in the morning and go to sleep at night - and how long is the nap?)

My 12 m.o. is transitioning to one nap but I'm struggling with timings and thought it would be helpful to know what some other 'schedules' were. His tired signs are virtually impossible to read. Confused

DS is 18 months and sleeps from 12:30 ish for between 1 1/2 and 3 hours. Sometimes he'd sleep for longer but I wake him after 3 hours so his night isn't affected.

His bedtime is 7ish and he's up between 6 and 7 in the morning.

stewmaker · 18/01/2011 14:00

it's variable for us. Ds (17 months) usually sleeps over lunch time for up to 2 hours, although he has recently been going down about 3pm.....

His bedtime is 7pm to 7:30pm and he usually gets up about 8am

hugebelly · 18/01/2011 14:21

DD is 2.7yo

Naps from 1.30 - 3.30/4 (depending on how active she has been during the morning)

Bed at 7.30pm and up at 7.15am

What time do you give him lunch? DD used to have lunch at 11.30 when she was 12mths old and she'd then sleep from 12.15 to 3.15.

tinks27 · 18/01/2011 15:00

LO is 13 months.
just dropped morning nap.
wakes between 6-6.30.
naps at 12.30pm for about 2 hours
asleep by 7/7.15

waking in night ( but hey thats a different topic!)

thought it might be helpful to you to have a younger one too to add to the mix

louloubelle · 18/01/2011 15:04

DC4 is 11 months, up at 8am, naps 930 til 1015, lunch about 1215, sleeps 1245 til 315 ish. Other 3 all dropped morning nap around 12 months and slept for 2 hours miminum about 1245. When they first drop morning nap it is worth moving lunch and post lunch nap 20/30 mins earlier so they aren't too tired to eat, and go to bed on a full tummy.
Sleep at night 730/45, til 8am.

AngelDog · 18/01/2011 15:25

Thanks, that's useful everyone.

At the moment he's up at 6.30, sleeps for 30 mins around 9.30, then wants to sleep for 2 hours at around 1.30 / 2.00pm. However, the long second nap means he can't sleep at night before 8.30 / 9pm which is too late for him & me. Wink

I've been shortening his second nap to 30-45 mins so he's in bed earlier (about 8pm) but he hates being woken.

I tried a one-nap day last week and he was clearly overtired - up for 1.5 hours in the night and difficult to settle for the rest of the night. We'd had a run of bad nights due to teething though so that might have been the reason.

He's a frequent night waker (struggles to settle himself between sleep cycles) although that's bearable as we co-sleep.

I give him lunch around 12.30-12.45 at the moment, so he naps on a full stomach.

13 months old naps at about 3pm for 1-2 hours. Bed at 7.30-8 until about 6.30-7.

winnybella · 18/01/2011 15:31

DD is 23 mo and has a nap 2-4, bed at 9, gets up at around 8.

blackteaplease · 18/01/2011 15:45

I've just dropped the morning nap, dd up at 6.30 and is back down again 10-12 and then up all afternoon til bedtime at 6.30. I'm trying to shift the nap to afternoon but she seems so tired in the mornings.

loonyrationalist · 18/01/2011 16:51

dd2 23 months - ben on 1 na a day since about 16 months.

Generally awake at 7.45
Nap at 2pm
Invariably wake her at 3.30pm (she would happily sleep for hours - if I don't wake her though she won't sleep later)

Bed at 8.15pm

When she was smaller she used to have a good 2hrs starting at about 1pm (when we get back from collecting dd2 from pre-school)

BlameItOnTheBogey · 18/01/2011 16:54

DD is 12 months old. Wakes up around 0645 and then I keep her going until 11. The last hour of that is difficult. She then sleeps until anywhere between 1pm and 2pm. That's enough to take her through to bed time at around 1845. If I put her to bed earlier in the morning then she is a wreck in the afternoon.

mindtheagegap · 18/01/2011 20:54

DD 15 months has her nap at 11.30am for 2 hours or so. Is up anywhere from 6am - 7.45, goes to sleep at 7pm. Usually still wakes at least once at night(given up trying to figure out why - hunger, teeth, growth spurt ... who knows Confused)

rubyslippers · 18/01/2011 20:56

DD is 15 mnths

She naps from 11.15 - 1.00 or maybe a bit longer

She trnastioned at around 11 months

She finishes lunch at 11 ish and then has a sleep

Generally bed by 6.45 pm and up at 6.30 am.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/01/2011 20:57

Drop the morning nap, give him an early lunch and then have the big nap around lunchtime.

Mornings will be a pain in the arse a bit tricky until he gets into the new routine but otherwise the 2nd nap gets too late and interferes with bedtime.

In answer to your question - ds2 is now 2.8. Wakes about 6.30, naps for 45 minutes at about 12.30 and goes to bed at 7pm.

Panzee · 18/01/2011 21:00

My son is 18 months and his naps vary, however he is at his best when he sleeps for a couple of hours from about 10am. He goes to bed at 7ish and gets up at 7am.

dietcokeandwine · 18/01/2011 21:42

DS2 is 15m, dropped the morning nap about a month ago.

Now he naps from about 12:30pm and sleeps for 1.5-2 hours. I have to wake him by 2:45 latest because I have to do the school run.

He is generally in bed by 7 and sleeps until he hears us get up in the morning - so around 7am during the week but will sleep till 7:30/8am at the weekends.

AngelDog · 19/01/2011 18:54

Interesting how much variation there is in nap times.

We had a one-nap day today, although we got up late due to sickness last night. I had to wake DS after 2.5 hours!

Zoidberg · 19/01/2011 20:45

DD is 21 months, naps from 11.30/12 for 1hr15 - 1hr45 usually, occasionally 2 hours. Goes to sleep 7.15-7.30, wakes up between 6-6.30 (wakes in the night a few times but usually straight back to sleep). She naps earlier on those days that she wakes at 5 something and won't despite best efforts go back to sleep.

She started dropping one of two naps when she was 15 months, didn't completely transition for another 5 months.

AppleAndBlackberry · 19/01/2011 21:31

Mine is 17 months and naps for about an hour at around 1pm, but it was more like 11:30/12ish at 12 months old.
