waking in the night

my 19 month old wakes in the night, most nights, he just cries a bit either in his sleep or wakes and takes sometimes an hour to get properly back to sleep crying off and on just little bits. Its nothing compared to some peoples sleep problems I know but it does wake us and sometimes I can't get back to sleep, I just wondered whether its normal and if anyone else experiences it. Is he a light sleeper, is it a developmental stage..we don't got to him, we stopped going to him and giving him a sippy cup f milk about a month ago I wonder if he's still just getting used to settling himself off and it will improve.
thank yo for your thoughts

It's going to wake you because you're super-sensitive to any noise he makes. Which is natural. My DS is 10, occasionally chats in his sleep, and even though I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, it wakes me every time! As long as he does drift off eventually of his own accord then he's doing great and it's only going to get better.
