Bed for a 1yr old???

Apologies in advance if this appears to be a daft question but...

DD with be 12 months old when DC2 arrives in June.

DD currently sleeps in a cot bed.

Would it be completely ridiculous to expect a 1yr old to sleep in a child's bed with a bed guard?

I know that you would normally put a child in a bed much later but am trying to decide whether we'll need to get another cot or go for a bed??

Anyone else been in this position?

It would be cheaper to get one of those moses maskets for the new arrival in june. Think argos do them for £25, new arrival will be fine probably for 6 months in the little basket, by the time that 6 months is up the other babe will be steady on his/her feet and a junior bed with bed guard probably be ok. Just remember to keep all things on shelves out of reach, turn radiator off, cover sockets and put a stair gate on the bedroom door. Hope that helps x

The only thing is is that I prefer the baby to get used to sleeping in a cot. DD moved from her moses basket to her cot at 10 weeks.

Anyone else put a baby in a bed at this age?

we tried but for our DD it was too young, she didn't settle - friends of ours kept their DS in his cot till he was three and another DD till she was 2.5. Both were fine and were at the right time to settle into a bed, with very little probles. I'm going to wait till my DD is the same. I feel that childhood is so short why rush everything? Unless DD starts trying to climb out of the cot! Mind you I've not got another baby on the way. Good luck. x

I have just successfully transitioned my 18 month old to a bed with bed guard, at 12 months I wouldn't have done it as she was a very active sleeper at the age and would regularly end up sleeping at the other end of the cot. Also a 12 month old may not know how to get down backwards off the bed and end up falling, I waited until DD could do this off our much higher bed before I moved her from a cot. The moses basket idea sounds like a good one.

I know someone who put her 4 month old straight into a bed from moses basket :)

Far too young, but only my opinion.

I would consider putting a normal single bed matress onto the floor (as long as you don't have hard flooring. That way they get used to learning where the edges of the bed are but can't injure themselves.

Be prepared for a week of little sleep though
