How do you know when they are ready to be deswaddled?

Dd2 is 13 weeks and has been swaddled for sleep since birth, but has recently 'found' her hands and is currently doing 'superbaby' a lot (you know, fist clenched and randomly stuck in thr air!) and just now in the car she fell asleep with her fingers in her mouth. So I was wondering if was time to progress to a sleeping bag?

Obviously the fear is whatever change I make is going to make night times worse not better. So any tips on how I know if she is ready and how to make the transition?

Half swaddle sounds a good compromise to me. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that Xmas Grin

My DD is 16 weeks and is still swaddled at night time. In the last week she has learnt how to free her arms. I don't see her do it but they are always up beside her head in the mornings. Doesn't settle well at night if not. Daytime naps- she sleeps in bouncy chair because I can't be bothered to keep going up the stairs I can keep an eye on her.

On a side note, do babies get pins and needles do you think, from sleeping with their arms up? Because I do! Blush

Argh! bothered

Thanks :) I wish dd was easy going enough to sleep in her bouncer! trying for the one-armed swaddle again tonight. Don't know if they show preferences at this age but looks like she may be a lefty like her dad!

I really hope she goes till 7.30 as I really can't lay I'm tomorrow when dd1 gets up!

Ok, so the 7.30 thing was a fluke...
