Is this really not the norm?

Had some friends over last night, all of whom are Mums themselves.

I gave DD (10 months) her last bottle downstairs (usually do it in her room) then took up to her room, popped her into her sleeping bag, into her cot, said goodnight and was back downstairs in less than 2 mins.

Everyone was shocked at how I put her to bed. Comments ranged from how lucky I was, how easy DD is to its cruel putting her down so quickly.

This is the way I have done bedtime since day 1 (which was when she was 6 weeks old as she was in hospital for that time). She is my first and I always thought that babies had a bedtime and this is what you do?

Feel like a cruel Mummy now! Should I be sitting with her till she falls asleep? We do have a baby monitor and she never makes a sound once I leave the room.

No, if she doesn't cry, that's fine.

But she didn't cry at 6 weeks when left alone awake? Really?

Well it's certainly not cruel but I would agree that you are lucky. I think most babies need a little more settling than that. But if it works for you, for god's sake don't change ANYTHING!

Really. She was tiny when she came home, about 4lb so too small for sleeping bags so she was swaddled which I think helped?

I could have done that with DC3. No way with DC1, DC2 or DC4.
DC3 has turned into my most annoying child otherwise, mind.

DS2 was like this but I knew I was incredibly lucky as DS1 always fought sleep. It was a nice surprise.

No, it is not cruel. How could it be as she obviously likes her sleep?

it isn't cruel no, although personally i would have found it hard to leave my 6 week old upstairs alone because i think babies just need to be cuddled lots and lots, regardless of whether they're crying or not

however, ds1 was just the same! always went down without so much as a whimper. you aren't doing anything wrong, you'r ejust lucky!!

yes could do this with dd1 and she has remained a great sleeper. so much so we are now concerned about getting her dry at night as she just sleeps SO heavily.

aye, at 4 he is still fab. had the odd spell where he vwanted us to stay till he ws asleep, but only for a few weeks/ and 1 3mth period where he couldn't/wouldn't sleep alone, but otherwise easy peasy

No cruel. She's fine. She is a remarkably good sleeper though.

Be mindful if you have another - it may come back to bite you on the bum. My niece slept about 8 hours a night from day 1, now sleeps 13 hours straight through aged 4! Nephew however just over 1 is an awful sleeper and is awake at about 5am every morning.

We do this too - feed, teeth, sleeping bag, light out. DD knows it is time to sleep, and so never cries. She has been like this since around 5/6 months (now 11 months). I realise how lucky we are when I hear about other people's bedtimes :-) I think it was good not to get into the habit of having to stay with her until she fell asleep.

First time I have had a look at the threads in this section - Good God, I didn't realise quite how lucky I am.

How do people survive on so little sleep? Going to spend every night now wondering if this is the night she will change!! I honestly had no idea!

It's fine, both my boys were like this by that age.
Not so much when they were younger but they were both pretty good by about 4-5 months.

And this wasn't through sleep training either, it just kind of happened. Ds1 had a dummy and Ds2 was a swaddle addict so they both went down pretty well.

She is currently sleeping 6.30pm to 8.20am (she is very precise!) Which suits me just fine! She has only done that from about 6 months though, just the 12 hours before that.

I find shouting at my toddler and falling out with my husband gets me through the day. Along with a good old sob at 12.30am when dd2 still isn't asleep.

dd has always been like this in that she is good at settling herself to sleep. I too make little fuss. 7pm comes, first eye rub and off she goes, in bag, dummy given, comforter tucked into cheek, same phrase about sleeping well, love you every night and off I toddle.
Staying asleep often another matter and beware if she wakes at the 4am witching hour BECAUSE SHE WONT GO BACK TO SLEEP UNTIL 8AM (had one of these last night).

Gabity you are not cruel, just very lucky. Both our DDs have been easy to put to sleep since they were about 6m old, sometimes now they have a shout and a cry for more attention and they play DH up a treat!! :o But really, 6:30 to 8:20 doesn't make you a bad mummy, but it certainly doesn't make you a good MNer - so bog off now and bask in your sleepfull glory

Both my boys were swaddled and slept all night from about 6-8 weeks.
DS1 has continued to be an excellent sleeper (he's 5 now, and almost sleeps too much. It's like trying to rouse a teenager some mornings!)
DS2 is 2.6 and is a little harder to bed down now, but he's still fairly reasonable.

Can I have one like yours for DC2, please? Not expecting yet, but getting a request in early.

Both mine slept 7 - 7 from 3 motnhs old, and I followed a bedtime routine. Kept me sane during those early years.

Not cruel. Just lucky. I had good sleepers too, it was weird. I didn't have the guts to tell anyone in RL for ages as I thought I'd get lynched.
