Do co-sleeping babies wake more often?

If they're not waking for feeds, that is?

I usually co-sleep with 11 m.o. DS and he wakes reasonably frequently but doesn't feed every time. He's not one of these babies who latches themselves on automatically - I either have to stick him on the breast, or jiggle/pat/hum him back to sleep when he wakes.

I'm working on some gentle encouragement to help him settle himself between sleep cycles, so he's temporarily in his cot. I'd like him back in bed when (if!) his sleep improves a bit - is he likely to start waking more often again because I'm there?
