my 17 month old DD is a bit erratic in her sleep habits. She has been mostly sleeping through since approx 13 months, but with

Her bedtime routine is fine, she goes to bed very happily and i leave her awake, still happy.

However, sometimes (maybe 2/3 nights a week)she wakes in the night and is quite inconsolable. In the past i would pick her up, cuddle her and that would get her back to sleep.

But recently she has carried on waking now and then and its getting harder to get her back off.

She wakes up again when i put her down after a cuddle, and returning to her with ressuring pats doesnt seem to reassure her at all- in fact she was inconsolable last night for an hour, despite me going back to her every 3 mins or so.

I dont know why she is waking-teeth? hunger?
It might be her teeth sometimes, but i dont think its every time, as she is generally very happy in the day.
And it might be hunger sometimes, but occasionally i have given her a bottle which calms her but then she wakes up again when i put her back down!

Please help. Shes been up for hours for last few nights and i am really tired- at 17 months i would think things would be easier!
(by the way she is my second child - DS sslept through from 2 months! )

Is she cold?
Is there something waking her up at that time - ie heating kicking in/milkman on his rounds?

we thought she was cold- so now she wears socks too and the heating is on alot ! Her room feels much warmer now and still she wakes! I dont think any sounds are waking her- its v quiet where we are

There's a developmental leap causing crazy sleep around 18 months.

Also it could be teeth. DS (14 months) is teething with molars on and off. He'll be ok in the day with distraction but in the night he'd be up for 1-3 hours. He'd settle faster (30 mins) if we gave calpol.

Also could she be getting ill or have an ear infection?
