CC question

If I were to start CC, which I don't want to do, what am I supposed to do if she doesn't settle when I go back in. I'm certain she won't. Whenever she cries she gets so upset that it takes a lot to calm her back down. She certainly won't settle in her cot, it'd take ages of cuddling and rocking.

I don't suppose I'll do it, but am very desperate now.

Also, does anyone have the New Toddler Taming book? I only have an old edition and he says to sedate after half an hour! I'm obviously not going to be doing that, so what does he say now? Do you just carry on all night, adding 2 minutes each time?

Hi. I think with CC you are just meant to go in, not take them out of the cot and give some reassuring words, pats etc but leave after 30secs or a min. This is regardless of whether they have stopped crying.

TBH if you aren't very happy about doing it then I would only do it as a very last resort. You need to be very committed as it is hard but it can give results. It took 3 nights with our DS; he cried for 50mins the first night, 15mins the second night and 3mins the third night. You need to be consistent so, if you don't think you'll be able to follow it through, I would say that its not the technique for you.

Sorry, I haven't got the Toddler Taming book. I'm a bit Shock that it recommends sedating - how old is the book?!

1990's! Incredible, isn't it? He also suggests smacking when they won't go back to bed. Has since revised all this, apparently. This is the guy who 'invented' CC.

It is a very last resort, but I still probably won't do it. Am going to night wean, starting tonight. That'll be hard enough. Thanks.
