18 week 'blip' - anyone experienced the same?

ds is 18 weeks and, until a week ago, was sleeping well - typically 7pm to 4ish. had even managed 7 til 6 once. the last week though has been a nightmare - e.g. night before last he woke up at 9:00, 1:30 and 4:30. each time he wouldn't be consoled with dummy or shh-pat or even cuddling - had to feed him to get him back to sleep.

so... i nipped out and bought baby rice and have it poised for a trial run this w/end BUT wondered if anyone else had experienced a short-term blip in sleep around this time? a friend has shown me a developmental time chart that shows a stormy period around now.. maybe i should try and ride thos out for another week or so.

ideas? opinions? thanks!

ps ds is exculsively b/f and there's no sign of teeth (well, he is v dribbly but can't feel anything there)

if not clear: i meant that it might be a sleep 'blip' rather than him needing solids - sorry, blame lack of sleep for lack of clarity

Other than the fact that ds is 17.5 weeks and I'm going out this afternoon to get the baby rice, we're in exactly the same situation.

Sorry if this is tmi, but my ds has also gone into a green poo phase - don't know if that has anything to do with it.

hi all, i think its usual for little ones to go through a growth spurt around this age /link{http://www.kellymom.com/bf/normal/growth-spurt.html\this} not sure if i have pasted link correctly....looks like this could be what you are experiencing. I has the same although DD was on formula, it lasted about 3-4 days with me and then she went back to normal routine. HTH

when my son was born he was a brilliant sleeper. then one day out of no-where he would wake at 12 on the dot and be up till 3. nothing i did put him to sleep. i even resorted to driving him around. although it felt li8ke forever it actually only lasted a week. i think it's just phases they go through.

Growth spurt most likely. Hold off on the weaning - latest research/advice says weaning makes no difference to sleep patterns. And baby rice has less calories than milk if baby is waking through hunger. It will pass.
