baby waking toddler

I was quite determined & firm about my ds's sleeping (naps & bedtime) and am very p[pleased that he is a really good sleeper and happy to go to bed.

Now I have another baby, a few months old, and I'm finding it difficult to be so strict - mainly because I don't want him to desturb the toddler. The older one went through a phase of waking after about an hour, and I would leave hime for maybe 5 or 10 minutes & he would go back to sleep for an hour or two more. I pretty much followed GF routines & they worked for me.

But if I leave baby to cry for a few minutes in the hope he'll settler, he wakes up the older one & I have 2 tired kiddies who haevn't had enough sleep, plus no break for myself. But if I get the baby up I'm a. not training him to be a good sleeper, and b. by 5/6pm he's so desperatelt tired. They each have their own room, but they are next to each other.

Any ideas?
