Bunk beds, at what age?

at what age is safe for top bunk?
DD is 3.5, DS is 18 months and won't be long before he is too big for the cot, may get another 6 months out of it, if we are lucky. Would 4 be too young to go into top bunk? has to be bunks too as lack of space, funny shaped room.

I got bunk beds for my two when dd1 was 4.9 and dd2 was 2. The idea was that dd1 would be in the top and dd2 the bottom. However, every night dd2 would climb up and join her big sister, so they both ended up in the top bunk. I think guidelines say top bunk from 6years but both of mine were fine .

It has to depend on the child, really. My DS is 4 and would be mature enough, were it not for the fact he sleepwalks.

That's my worry ds is a climber.DD i think will be fine though.( has only fell out of bed once since she was 18 months old) Does anyone know if you can get low bunks?
