co sleeping and ds will be crawling soon

I use to put ds in his crib for the first part of the night. I gave up on this when he was about 5 months old, he is now 7. He sleeps great in my bed with me and we both get rest now but he will be crawling soon and I dont want him wandering. I dont have the bars on the side of my bed and was wondering if this made anyone else nervous and what others have done to keep things safe. I would prefer he slept in his own crib and also wonder if I have made a mistake, if he will ever sleep alone now. Anyway, back to the original question, should I place my mattress on the floor? I dont want to put the bars on the sides of my bed if I can avoid it. Any suggestions on what is/is not safe with co sleeping as they reach milestones?

My DD still cosleeps with me from time to time and she can now walk. (11months)

She has never gotten up and tried to get away without me noticing and in any case the door is closed so even if she did she would be going nowhere.

I leave a couple of pillows at the side of the bed that I am not on so that if she does decide to roll around she won't get too much of a bump.

Might sound lax but if it happens it happens!

we bought a futon mattress and put it on the floor when dd was about 7mths - a small double. DD still sleeps brilliantly on it (now 13mths) and we have no plans to ever get a toddler bed for her.

It's nice, actually, to have them at floor level. I think it's a Montessori principal to have everything at their height (obviously that's not why we did it though!)

Wow, thats crazy. Usually when he wakes he just kicks and cries, but there is no telling since he can roll now. Guess I will get on it. 5 months and squirming like that, really!? Ds is not even sitting up yet, which is why I have not done this sooner. Thank you. So, are they still sleeping with you? Grin
