winding four week old during bottlefeeds

Am I getting too obsessed with burps?

how often should you interupt a bottle feed to wind a newborn? does anyone have any tips for winding during night feeds?

my four week old is drinking about 4oz and we have been stopping to wind him about halfway through his bottle then trying again we he finishes- not sure if this is enough/ too much?
most times we get a burp up but we seem to be waking him up too much during night feeds to get a burp. problem is if we don't get burp up then he grunts for about an hour after we put him back down to sleep.

Halfway through and afterwards sounds fine. General rule of thumb IMO is if you've been rubbing and patting for five mins and still nothing then there's probably nothing!

I always found the over the shoulder method best, so the wind has a clear passage. Another method for tricky wind, or discomfort, is to the lie the baby down on his back, take hold of the bent knees, then rotate them clockwise, gently pressing against the tummy with the knees as you go around IYSWIM?

Enjoy your boy Smile

agree - halfway through is about right for most babies

and over the shoulder with a gentle patting lets them nod off but still gets the wind up ime

my best thing for night feeds was a truly hideous lamp that you just touched on and off, and it you held your fingr on it, it went down very dim, so the room was never really bright enough to be stimulating (or hurt my very tired eyes!) I loved that ugly bloody lamp!

sorry, wondered off topic there!

Do you mean the Babytec Autofade Bedside Lamp?? If so, best invention ever!!Grin

Great for BF'ing, great for the "I need a light on stage", and for travelling so every room they stay in has a gentle light.

It was a fugly thing from B&Q, I think! Nothing Babyfancy Autowhatsit about it, but I bet that wouldn't have been so visually unappealing and done the same job!

It was a lot like this - do not open link if easily offended, truly, it was upsettingly bad.

On the plus side, perhaps it's unpleasantness helped the dc go back to sleep, they couldve been thinking 'if we open our eyes, we will see The Lamp Of Tastelessness, let us pretend to be asleep so she turns the ugly bugger off!'

#So, er, yes, OP. Burp halfway through a bottle and buy a hideous lamp, a full night's sleep shall be yours!
